Hurricane Sandy: No Power But We Are Fine

It seemed unnatural for me to write about the presidential campaign, organizational learning or social media when the after effects of Hurricane Sandy are impacting so many of my friends and family.

My heart also breaks for the people I don’t know.

Reading New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s tweet earlier this week, “The Jersey Shore of my youth is gone” brought a lump to my throat.

I have spent many summers as a child and adult on New Jersey’s Long Beach Island. I can’t help but do a double-take as I recognize some of our favorite restaurants, neighborhoods, even amusement park rides swallowed by the sea.

There’s nothing like a Sandy-sized-disaster to remind us what really matters and to be oh so thankful for what we have.

I’m relieved and grateful that my friends and family in and around New York City are ok. I hope yours are too.
