Translating from the Classroom to Work
This global healthcare leader needed to ensure that the content learned in the classroom was actually applied on the job.
Course of Action:
We designed and implemented ‘Practice & Apply’ as the solution to meet our client’s need.
- Practice & Apply is an agile solution aligned with a year-long leadership development program.
- Developed customized scenarios presented to training participants after attending classroom training, at timed intervals, to actively reinforce learning and application to real work experiences.
- Training participants were assigned leadership scenarios relevant to their day-to-day jobs that were completed back at their work location.
- The participant’s managers were engaged in the process and asked to monitor, coach and provide feedback on their participant’s progress by leveraging a simple set of tools and resources.
This client realized multiple benefits from implementing Practice & Apply including increased employee accountability to apply learning on the job, more engagement from managers in developing future leaders, and an overall commitment and visibility to developing employees.
