“No Crying at Work!”- Cathy Henesey of AdventHealth

Big Fish in the Talent Pool is fortunate to have yet another titan of Talent Acquisition in Episode 37.  Cathy Henesey is the Executive Director of Talent Acquisition at AdventHealth where she leads a team of 240 recruiters with a plan to hire 33,000 people in 2021. Not one to avoid a challenge, Cathy is also the current President of the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals (ATAPglobal.org).

Interestingly, Cathy started her career in Executive Search right after finishing her MBA at Texas Tech. She worked her way into TA leadership serving the IT Consulting industry before transforming the recruitment function for the global manufacturer Trane, and then pivoted into healthcare. Standing on that strong foundation, Cathy brings a confident, no-drama approach, confronting TA challenges head-on. She’s seen it all and has has plenty of insights to share as a result.  And on the topic of mentoring – she readily admits she has coached more than one team member over the years that “There’s nothing so sad at work that is worth crying over – so, no crying at work!”

We covered hot topics like the vision of ATAP for TA leaders globally, going beyond “order taking”, how to build a TA strategy, the role of RPO in Advent Health’s sourcing strategy.  We also discussed Advent’s approach to hiring health professionals internationally and sponsoring them as US based talent. Cathy shares her influencers, including a few names you may recognize, like Gerry Crispen, Chris Hoyt, Jim Schnyder, Shally Steckerl, Tim Sackett, Eric Jaquith, and Chris Havrilla.

We hope you enjoy this frank conversation with Cathy, a born leader and TA powerhouse!
