No Extra Credit for “Obfuscation”: The Wisdom of Simple

I have always been fond of the quote attributed to Einstein that says, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

After hearing one too many people drone on about their topic or concept, I’m often reminded of this. In some cases I suppose it’s a remnant of the type of thinking that “if only I understand it, then everyone will have to come to me for help”. In other words, they’re not really trying to explain it. Or too many people think that “more is more” when explaining a topic. It’s not.

The next time you’re asked to explain something or speak on a topic, remember to take the time to make it simple. And if you still need convincing, read these articles by my colleagues:
